5th Grade Orientation will be on Friday, August 14 from 8:30 to 10:30. No transportation will be provided.

Robertsville Middle School serves the western end of Oak Ridge. It is located near the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Robertsville Road. Robertsville has a current enrollment of seven hundred students in grades 5-8. In 2008, RMS met all the federal guidelines set forth by the No Child Left Behind Act.

RMS Student Competes in the National Spelling Bee William Mason, a 7th grader at Robertsville Middle School, won the News Sentinel Southern Appalachia Regional Spelling Bee on February 28. William correctly spelled the word vociferous to take first prize in the competition. Thanks to his win, William qualified for the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. William performed very well at the bee but missed making the semi-final round by a single point. Congratulations to William for a job well done!

Journalism Field Trip The RMS 7th and 8th grade journalism/creative writing elective class recently took a field trip to learn more about jobs in the field of journalism. The group began their day with a tour of the Knoxville News-Sentinel facility. Later, they visited WBIR-TV and watched the Channel 10 noon news live in the studio. Reporter LaSaundra Brown and meterologist Mike Witcher answered the students' questions and then posed with the group for a photo on the WBIR news set.

Rams at Tremont The RMS 6th grade recently spent three days at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. Students participated in a cooperation course, observed some of the scientific experiments conducted in the park by naturalists, learned about bears, and hiked eight miles into the national park. During the hike, they studied the history and ecology of the mountains. One group also spent a day in Cades Cove. The Tremont trip has been an important part of the 6th grade curriculum for over thirty years.

Skyward Family Access Is Now Active Robertsville a new web-based student information system called Skyward Family Access. This program is a free web-based application that gives parents and guardians online access to their child's grades, assignments, attendance, schedules, emergency information, and other relevant information. RMS parents should have received a packet of information about Skyward Family Access including a username and password. Skyward Family Access replaces K12 Planet.
